History

Blackfriars Asset Management is an Emerging Market equity investment boutique which has been managing institutional Emerging Market assets since 1998. Formerly part of WestLB Mellon Asset Management (WMAM), a 50/50 joint venture between WestLB AG and The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation, the company's name was changed to Blackfriars Asset Management on becoming a wholly-owned indirect subsidiary of The Bank of New York Mellon Corporation in December 2008, one of the world's major asset management groups with operations in 34 countries, serving more than 100 markets.

BNY Mellon Asset Management's multi-boutique asset management model encompasses the skills of specialist investment managers. This structure is ideally suited to Blackfriars, as it encourages an entrepreneurial, focused approach to investment and creates an environment in which we can best add value for our clients and build on our individual and organisational strengths to develop new products to meet the needs of institutional investors globally.

As one of The Bank of New York Mellon's boutique asset managers, Blackfriars enjoys the best of both worlds: complete investment autonomy as well as the security of ownership by one of the world's leading financial services companies.

Investing in Emerging Markets necessitates a specialist approach, with in-depth experience of regional and cultural variations. Our team based approach is centered around a strong flow of information and ideas. We believe in focused decision making, with efficient implementation and clear accountability. Our global Emerging Markets managers have long experience in investing in developing markets, with over 20 years investment experience each, whilst our investment analysts benefit from regional specialisation.

Our investment approach seeks to capture value from both country allocation and stock selection. Our core Global Emerging Markets product is positioned as a core active strategy, whilst our regional products adopt a higher conviction, more bottom-up approach..

To ensure we attract and retain the best quality people, we have a remuneration policy that aligns our interests with our clients. In addition to financial compensation, a proportion of future salary is based on the performance of our Global Emerging Market Fund.
